This how short rotation plantations are harvested

The complete cycle from harvesting of poplars to forwarding to chopping of the wood was demonstrated at the Bioenergy Practical Demo in Wieselburg on 30 January 2015. The various options for recultivation of harvested areas and heating technology were demonstrated in the Wieselburg Technology and Research Centre (tfz). Several hundred visitors responded to the invitation from the two organisers Westtech Maschinenbau and Hargassner Heiztechnik and watch interesting practical demonstrations. The forwarding of harvested material was performed by Pfanzelt forestry machines. Two different systems were on show:

  • Forwarding of the harvested material with a forwarding trailer that was directly attached to an excavator fitted with a cutting head.
  • Forwarding of the material with separate vehicle with forwarding trailer.

The Pm Trac is ideally suited for this purpose. The high travel speed of 50 km/h means that individual locations can be reached rapidly and without expensive road transporters. The Pm Trac and forwarding trailer system also convinced visitors in action in the harvest zone. The Pm Trac was equipped with the woodZIPPER forwarding trailer so that the harvested material could be transported ergonomically and economically, while minimising damage to the ground. The compacted wood fuel – branches, tree tops or wood fuel from short cycle plantations – is compacted on the woodZIPPER with two hydraulically actuated clamping stanchions – increasing the material quantity per trip by around a third. This means that number of individual movements on the trails can be reduced. <link lightboxpfeil>Open video
